We may have heard about the importance of including flossing in our regular dental care routine from our dentists. But should kids also use floss for the routine cleaning of their small and white milk teeth? Reading the page for kids dental care services by CP Dental, it is recommended to use kid dental floss.
Dental floss: Its importance
We all know that flossing helps in removing food debris in between teeth. These food particles, if left inside the mouth, can cause the formation of plaque and later on cause bad breath and tooth decay. Flossing also helps in polishing the teeth surfaces, making your teeth look sparkly white and clean. With this, dentists advise patients to include flossing as part of their kids’ dental routine when they reach the age of 2 or 3.
Kid dental floss: How to do it
Because flossing may be difficult for kids to do on their own in their early years, parents should supervise in using dental floss until their kids improve their dexterity. Dentists recommend using soft and smooth floss so that it will not hurt the kids’ gums. Parents may need to continue helping their children floss until they are 8 to 10 years old.
There are many ways of using a dental floss.
The spool method. This is done by getting a long piece of floss and wrapping it around your middle finger. Using your index finger and thumb, carefully move a piece of the floss in between your child’s teeth so as to remove any trapped food debris. Make sure that you also scrape below the gum line without snapping the floss.
The loop method. This uses the same technique but instead of wrapping the floss around your middle finger, you can create a bigger circle by wrapping it around all your fingers, except the thumb.
Keeping your child’s teeth clean and white is essential not only for his physical appearance but his overall general health. Make sure to brush and floss their teeth regularly to prevent dental problems.
